Abstract

 


 


The issue of child labor has exacerbated in Yemen since the 1990's, a period which witnessed political, economic and social upheavals due to the deteriorating economic conditions, extreme poverty, and high unemployment rate. The study is therefore aimed at investigating this issue and its negative impacts on individuals and the society as a whole. Towards this end, the study adopts diachronic and analytic-descriptive approaches to the analysis of data.


The analysis of data has revealed that child labor in Yemen is due to socio-political and economic factors and has disastrous impacts on development and society as it saps the potential and energy of the young generation. All this makes it necessary to come up with an immediate remedy to the problem of child labor in order to protect children's rights to enjoy their childhood as well as physical and psychological fitness; such a protection can help children grow in a normal way and build a character capable of coping with the demands of life and development. In this respect, it is necessary to apply child labor laws to penalize those parents who deny their children of getting proper education and on those employers who exploit children in carrying out extreme task
