Preventive Measures from the Epidemic in the Sunnah 10.35781/1637-000-031-005

Abstract

This paper is an attempt to uncover the prophetic method in taking protective measures as found in the hadiths concerning plagues. The researcher attempts to define preventive measures from an Islamic perspective, the meaning of pandemics, and the importance of adopting protective measures in the face of pandemics. Additionally, she has outlined the underlying Islamic principles covering this subject and any specific characteristics of these principles. Moreover, the paper demonstrates some examples of how the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, sought to manage pandemics and hinder them from spreading, by focusing on the positive elements and transforming this from a calamity to a worldwide opportunity, which is something unique to the Islamic understanding and difficult to find outside of the Muslim society, owing to the fact that it relies on the Islamic weltanschauung as found in the two pristine sources.
