Abstract

The research aimed at identifying the most important international standards of designing electronic courses, figuring out the stages of designing e-courses in accordance with international standards, and preparing a suggested proposal for designing e-learning courses in light of international standards. The researchers used the descriptive-analytical method of research for tackling many findings of research and studies related to the design and standards of e-courses. Based on the foregoing, a suggested proposal has been developed for designing e-learning courses in higher education institutions in light of international accreditation standards. The research has arrived at a number of findings represented in the following standards: standards related to the description of the e-learning course and its outputs; such as the clarity of the objectives of the e-course, meeting the needs of learners, determining the pre‑course requirements; standards related to the organization and coherence of the content; such as the relevance of the educational content to the outcomes of the course, the novelty of the educational content, and dividing the content into small parts; standards related to the means of content delivery; such as presenting educational content in several styles, providing support and assistance to the learner while using the e-course, and providing a guide on how to use the e-course; standards related to arousing the interest of learners in learning; such as the possibility of moving to more advanced parts of the content according to the progress of the learner, the diversification of the examples and activities in proportion to the age group, and the compatibility of the duration of electronic content with the age group; and standards related to the evaluation of the course and its outputs; such as a placement test to determine the level of the learner, a formative test to measure the progress of the learner, and a post-test to measure the extent to which the objectives of the course have been achieved. Keywords: e-learning, e-learning courses, international accreditation standards, higher education institutions.
