Abstract

This study aimed to know the level geometric thinking among the students of Basic Mathematics Faculty of Education – Taiz University. The study sample consisted of (154) students from the four levels in the department basic Mathematics during the second semester of the academic year 2018- 2019. To achieve the aims of the study and answer its questions, the researchers prepared a scale of geometric thinking according to the Van Hiele model, composed of (23) items of the multiple- choice type with four alternatives. It is divided into three levels: (visualization - analysis - ordering). The data were statistically by using the statistical program ( SPSS) .The study comes out with the following most prominent finding: The total average of the students ’performance on the testing of geometric thinking was less than the supposed average of the total degree .And there are statistically significant differences at (α = 0.05) in the level of geometric thinking among students of the Basic Department of Mathematics in the Faculty of Education - Taiz University, related to the of the academic level variable (I -II - III - IV) in favor of the third level. Basehd on these results, the researchers concluded a number of recommendations.
