Abstract


The aim of the study was to determine the level of university service at the Andalus University for Science and Technology, in the Republic of Yemen, from the point of view of its students, and to examine the level of the students, their specialization and gender, in relation to their assessment of the level of service provided by the university.
The study sample consisted of 155 male and female students, selected according to a simplified manner from students of the first and fourth levels, of the faculties of administrative sciences and arts, at the end of the academic year 2012/2013. The data was collected by means of a questionnaire consisting of 45 paragraphs distributed across eight areas: The infrastructure, library, personnel, admission and registration services, public services, student activities, university mental image and personal development. It is characterized by veracity of content and veracity of construction and its consistency was verified using the Cronbach’s Alpha formula, which reached a consistency coefficient of 0.78 α -k. The research also employed the arithmetic average, percentages and the Mann-Whitney U test, as statistical methods and that was through using the SPSS program.
The students' view of university service, as a whole, was moderate, with a difference of the students’ evaluation for the quality of university service upon the level of the various areas. That is as their view towards the admission and registration service was high, whilst their assessment of the level of quality of public services and student activities was weak. As for the rest of the fields, then the students’ evaluation of them were of an average level. These areas are: Infrastructure, library services, staff services, university mental image, and personal development.
The results also showed that the view of the sample members towards the quality of the university service does not differ according to their level of study, upon the level of performance, as a whole, and at the level of each of its fields, with the exception the field of personnel. While the study showed significant differences in respect to the respondents’ assessment of the level of quality of university service attributed to gender and faculty.
