Abstract

Abstract:
This literature review includes
twenty articles focusing on the
effectiveness of digital game-based
learning. These articles were published
between 2015 to 2020. The main topics
of these articles are grouped into five
themes: (i) digital game-based learning
and enhancing learner participation (2)
digital game-based learning and
language teaching (3) digital gamebased learning and its impact on
academic performance and student
achievement (4) digital game-based
learning and its impact on sustainable
learning and inclusive education and
potential risks (5) appropriateness of
game designs and educational
frameworks. In the previous mentioned
period, this review summarized
qualitative, quantitative and empirical
studies discussing the important aspects
of learning based digital games as an
educational tool to enhance learning
strategies. The results of the review of
these studies are related to the
effectiveness of learning based digital
games. This effectiveness has a positive
impact on the future of teaching
strategies that digital game-based
learning will provide. The reasons
behind this effect are to enhance student
participation and motivate students
during the learning process. These
reasons will be positively reflected on
their behavior, level of achievement,
development and sustainability of the
learning process. Therefore, this review
addresses the strengths, challenges, the
appropriateness and effectiveness of
integrating learning based digital games
in the educational system.
