Abstract
The research aims to study and analyse Al-Shawkhani’s social thought examining its themes and significance in shaping the modern social Arabic thought. To achieve this goal, the research examines and analyses the intellectual, social and historical background that inspired Al-Shawkhani’s social thought. The research also highlights Al- Shawkhani’s views on the social and the intellectual reform indicating that his views pioneered those of the intellectuals of the foundation stage of the history of modern social Arabic thought(1798-1914). In examining the role of Al- Shawkhani’s social and the intellectual thought, the research points out the social, intellectual and political activities of Al-Shawkhani. In addition, the research examines the social and complicated problems in Yemen and its role in shaping Al-Shawkhani’s social thought. The research also talks about the Al- Shawkhani’s views and attempts to find solutions to these problems. Moreover, the research indicates that Al-Shawkhani’s views are not grounded on religious perspectives, but an intellectual thought based on social dimensions. Finally, the research proves that Al-Shawkhani’s thought pioneers other works in dealing with the corruption issues, the sectarian bigotry and the social injustice. The research concludes that Al-Shawkhani is worthy to be listed among the intellectuals of the foundation stage in the history of the modern, social, and Arabic thought (1798-1914).
