الملخص
The urbanization and devouring the cities and rural areas surrounding them are the most prominent features of modern cities .Therefore, the capital city of Hadramaut (Mukalla) has witnessed rapidly spatial expansion since independence of 1967 when it was chosen to be the capital of the Hadramout province and both sultanates of Qu'aiti and Kathiri were fused together.
Later the unification in the nineties of the twentieth century and the returning of Yemeni migrants, who have mostly settled in the city of Mukalla, from the Gulf states after the second Gulf war have increased its urban extension.
The most significant indicators of this horizontal expansion were the extension of eastern and western parties of Mukalla.
The latter has formed a remarkable consumption by the various forms of urbanization especially residential ones as evidenced by the obvious rise of annual growth of these parties, which reached 13 % between 1988 and 2004, compared to annual growth of population with average 11.6 % during the same period.
In this study, we will analyze the most prominent manifestation of this urbanization in parties of Mukalla and focus on the most important factors leading to it and the problems resulting from this expansion.This will be through three parts from which this study formed , preceding by an introduction and ending with a conclusion.
The first part is devoted to study the aspects that indicate the expansion of city of Mukalla to its edges , the second deals with the causes leading to this expansion, and the third displays the impacts of this expansion that caused the suffering of the city
