Abstract

The present study is an attempt to investigate lexical and morphological features of Sana'ani Arabic dialect (SAD). It discusses its unique features. The broad goal of the study is to review the existing lexical variations of Sana'ani Arabic and identify some of its specific characteristics. It focuses on the impact of some factors that affect the morphological features of Sana'ani Arabic. It sheds light on the diversity of lexical variation of Sana'ani Arabic dialect with reference to Standard Arabic .The research presents a brief literature review that provides a clear picture of  of Sana'ani Arabic dialect. The data were collected from various sources such as recorded speeches taken from conversations, interviews, movies, and questionnaire given to the speakers of the target variety. It is based on the analysis of the elicited data collected from 90 participants speaking Sana'ani Arabic. The data were processed and analysed by the use of SPSS statistical program and the results were interpreted accordingly. The prime findings of the study reveal that Sana'ani Arabic dialect (SAD) illustrates a particular lexical and morphological uniqueness. Furthermore, the results showed that Sana'ani Arabic dialect is highly affected by Standard Arabic, and to some extent by other vernacular dialects. The findings also revealed that a good deal of Sana'ani words are originally taken from Turkish.
